Jefferson Dog Training Services NO HYPE! NO JARGON!
Just effective help based on over 40 years experience of PRACTICAL, KIND, FUN TRAINING.
Pet dog obedience (beginner, intermediate and advanced)
These classes take place at West Pennard, near Glastonbury .We also do small groups in our own field.
The classes are designed for owners to understand their dogs and learn how to train them. All dogs and owners require a slightly different form of teaching, so our methods are variable. Laughter and chat are encouraged!
Class 1 - Puppy/Beginners
Here your dog learns how to socialise with other dogs and people. You learn to teach basic obedience (sit, down, not pulling, come, retrieve etc.) We also cover good manners (not jumping up or mouthing, grooming, approach to other dogs etc.)
When your dog is ready, they are promoted to Class 2!
Class 2 - Intermediate
Here we cover a lot of the same things, but at a much higher level. By now your handling skills are improved, and training can REALLY start.
We bring in more advanced training and self-control exercises (not easy for a dog!) such as stopping your dog when it is chasing something or remaining in a "stay" when there are distractions.
This class should give you a well-controlled dog (provided you do the homework, of course!).
Class 3 - Advanced
Dogs and handlers are by now ready for greater challenges. We can help you to teach your dog to be useful to you (tidying toys away, finding lost articles etc.). Anything you wish to do that your dog is physically capable of doing is on the agenda. Many people attend this class for years as it becomes a social event for the owners as well as the dogs.
Workshops
We are now doing outside lessons to cover particular problems depending on requirements. We take small groups and will just cover one aspect. It could be Pulling/Recalls/ behaviour around other dogs. These are restricted to those who already attend classes.
Fun Gundog / tracking/searching classes at Keinton Mandeville.
Agility classes
Not just for border collies and fit people! All types of dogs and owners can enjoy this training. All you need is basic obedience and a sense of humour.
The classes are specifically designed for pet owners to have fun with their dog. Although you will learn the technical side of agility, if you get it wrong it doesn't matter. During the classes your dog will learn to jump, weave, go through tunnels and over ramps - great fun for your dog and lots of laughter is encouraged!
Your dog must be physically fit and one year old or over. Due to high demand we can now only offer places to those dogs that have come through our obedience classes.
